PHỞ KING 2022: “aMENding HIStory”

Phở King is VSAUW’s biennial cultural show for identifying young males. Picking up after a year of being quarantined and isolated, we aimed to restart history after COVID and made our own new definitions of what it means to be a man in this time and culture. We will reclaim the definition of “manhood” and redefine “what it means to be a man” by creating a new standard and legacy for PK for years to come. We are now aMENding the tainted HIStory of toxic masculinity, and dismantling old societal standards. CONTESTANTS

Our eleven contestants prepared for the show over the course of six months with the VSAUW Officer Team. They engaged in weekly dance practices, workshops that challenged their definition of masculinity, and created skits that tackled the different types of toxic masculinity seen in their own lives. Each of these skits portrayed meaningful subthemes under “aMENding HIStory”, including ideas of society and self-image, along with family and identity. Through this program, these contestants were able to showcase a multi-faceted and impactful night for the Seattle community.
